Specialist Notes

Rare and intriguing work, on deformities and monstrosities in nature.A man with a brilliant and versatile talent and multifaceted interests, butalso with a haughty, argumentative and quarrelsome temperament, Bianchi graduates in medicine in Bologna, where he also studied natural history, mathematics, hydraulics, and read the works of ancient and modern philosophers and of Greek, Latin and Italian writers. His many talents come with a unique talent for making enemies. Back in Rimini after a period of travel and three years teachingat the University of Siena, opens a sort of free university in his home, where anatomy and natural sciences, physics and astronomy are discussed, philosophy and literature, national history and antiquarianism. The house also hosts a botanical garden, a natural history museum and an archaeological collection. < span style="background-color: hsl(var(--bs-white)); color: var(--bs-card-color); font-size: var(--bs-body-font-size); text-align: var(--bs-body-text-align);">It is here that the Accademia dei Lincei is brought back to life and hosted, whereBianchi takes on the name , with which it will become known, of Iano Planco.
