Title page and text within a wood-engraved frame with geometric motifs, woodworm work on the upper outer margin of the first 4 pages, rare foxing, some small and light stains on the first pages, binding of a later period in rigid cardboard, title on the spine, defects on the zipper, minor defects. Ownership signatures on the title page, handwritten notes on the back of the last page.
First edition of this work dedicated to the Marquis Francesco Buonvisi and the Abbot Francesco Venini, mathematics teacher at the University of Parma. Filandro Cretense is the Arcadian pseudonym used by Count Antonio Cerati (Vienna 1738 - Parma 1816), Councilor of State, professor of Public Law in Parma and learned man of letters, he wrote this work after a long period spent in Lucca inspired by the style of Sannazaro .
