Orenthal James Simpson, known as O.J. Simpson, is a former American football player and television personality. He rose to fame for his career in the National Football League (NFL) as a running back for the Buffalo Bills and the San Francisco 49ers in the 1960s and 1970s. Simpson was a standout player, winning the 1968 Heisman Trophy and being a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
However, he became even more famous worldwide for his involvement in a controversial criminal case. In 1994, Simpson was charged with the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. The trial, known as "the trial of the century", captured the attention of the media and the public.
Despite overwhelming evidence against him, Simpson was acquitted of murder charges in 1995. However, in a 1997 civil trial, he was found liable for the deaths and ordered to pay more than $33 million in damages to the victims' families.
The entire case has been highly controversial and has raised significant questions about race, celebrity, criminal justice, and the media. Even after the trial, Simpson has remained in the public eye and has continued to spark debate and discussion.
