Franco Baresi is a former Italian footballer, born on 8 May 1960 in Travagliato, Italy. He is considered one of the greatest defenders in the history of football and spent most of his career with Milan, becoming a club legend.
Baresi began his football career with Milan in the mid-1970s and played for the club until his retirement in 1997. He contributed significantly to Milan's success, winning numerous Serie A, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana and, most importantly, the European Cup/Champions League. One of the highlights of his career was Milan's victory in the European Cup in 1989 and 1990, under coach Arrigo Sacchi.
Franco Baresi was known for his elegance on the pitch, his leadership, his ability to read the game and his ability to anticipate opposing attackers. He formed an iconic defense with teammate Paolo Maldini, and together they became one of the best defensive duos in the history of football.
At international level, Baresi represented the Italian national team, participating in several editions of the FIFA World Cup. He reached the final of the tournament in 1994, but Italy was defeated by Brazil on penalties.
After retiring from football, Franco Baresi remained involved in the world of football, including in managerial and administrative roles.
