Oblong folio album, full leather binding, gilt title on spine with gilt decoration on spine (damaged), half-title (Danck Den Edlen Beförderern), designed by Rosenberg and engraved by Berger 1792, with 71 embossed plates colored in hand protected by vellum with German and French Latin nomenclature, numbered from 325 to 396, drawn and engraved by Henning. Cuts in red.
Marcus Elieser Bloch (1723–1799) was a German physician and naturalist, considered one of the most influential ichthyologists of the 18th century. From 1782 to 1795 he published his General Natural History of Fishes, a large 12-volume work on German fishes, the remaining volumes concerned fish from other parts of the world and were entitled Natural History of Foreign fishes.
