Auction details

A unique opportunity to discover and collect the great Italian and French vineyard classics of the 1960s.

This extraordinary selection of fine wines, focusing mainly on legendary vintages such as 1959, 1961 and 1964, offers an exclusive overview of historic labels that defined wine-making excellence in the world's most prestigious wine regions.

Piedmont is represented by some of the most famous labels of its tradition: with Barbaresco and Barolo from two memorable vintages such as 1961 and 1964, names such as Prunotto, Pio Cesare, Borgogno, Giordano, Damilano and Gaja represent the pinnacle of Langhe winemaking. Gaja's Barbaresco, in particular, is a wine that has marked the history of the denomination, with a quality that has transcended national borders, while the bottles of Borgogno and Damilano express the power and longevity of these great Nebbiolos.

France, on the other hand, is represented by two great names from Bordeaux: Château Léoville Poyferré from an unparalleled 1959 vintage, and Château Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. The 1960s vintages of these châteaus are now considered among the best ever, with wines that combine structure, complexity and an extraordinary capacity for ageing. The Bordeaux from these châteaus, with their profile of black fruit, spice, tobacco and earthy notes, have achieved a perfect balance between power and finesse, evolving beautifully over the decades.

The oldest Cantina in Barolo presented in a collection from 1931 to 2014.

This is the extreme synthesis to present the Finarte auction on June 9th, where an extraordinary selection of Barolo Borgogno of over 1,900 bottles will be auctioned, covering the time period 1931-2014 with great completeness: 1931, 1937, 1947, 1952, 1955, 1957, 1958, 1959 and then all the vintages produced without neglecting even one until 2014, with very rare bottles of Barolo Storico Crus and the most recent Crus, which the Farinetti management decided to enhance after the company’s acquisition in 2008.

The bottles, preserved with extreme care, have been viewed one by one by the Borgogno company which guarantees their authenticity and essential conservation requirements.

The collection is offered in lots divided into several large complementary verticals that offer the entire history of 1931-2014, in smaller verticals focused on specific periods and selections of targeted vintages and particular Crus.

The Monographic auction of the Barolo Borgogno 1931-2014 Collection will be preceded by two tasting events dedicated to collectors in Milan and Rome.
