Paris, Didot, 1802. 2 volumes in 4th. first part  of the first tome and first part of the second tome.  At the end of the first volume 24 plates engraved in copper, one not numbered, the others numbered 1-23, 5 of them have tears in the margin, and n.22 has a stained side margin, the second volume has no plates, contemporary bindings in hazelnut calfskin with smooth oval backs  in pink leather with gold-embossed titles and friezes, some peeling and scratches.



Specialist Notes

Rare edition. The author was an engineer, residing in Nice, in 1775 he entered the service of the king of Sardinia; in 1780 he accompanied the Duke of Gloucester on their GrandTour. In 1787 he published two travel guides in Geneva dedicated to the history of Nice and the Pennine Alps. After settling in London, between 1792 and 1795 he published three works dedicated largely to the Rhaetian Alps; in 1800 he traveled from France to Italy through the Lepontine Alps. Returning to Switzerland in 1796, he became a breeder of merino sheep. Between 1802 and 1806 he published the Description des Alpes grées et cottiennes, history, importance and statistics on Savoy.< /p>
