Specialist Notes

& nbsp; "A man in a woman, indeed a god speaks through her mouth and to listen to her I am made such, that but the more I will be mine," this is how Michelangelo defined her, who was deeply linked to the Marquise Vittoria Colonna (Marino 1490 -Rome 1547) from an intense spiritual relationship and friendship. The poetess had an exceptional notoriety but her fame is certainly not linked only to the name of Michelangelo. She was a central figure of 16th century culture, muse of a cenacle of writers, around her gathered various intellectual groups representative of the cultural trends of the time. Her Rhymes, composed following the death of her beloved husband, are inspired by Petrarchism, the most widespread literary genre in the sixteenth century and are generally divided into amorous and spiritual: they circulated as private gifts to illustrious personalities of the time from which she received numerous expressions of admiration and esteem.
