Specialist Notes

In 1960, Aston Martin turned to Zagato to create an even more performance-enhancing DB4 G.T. Production was only 19 units. The 2019 DB4 G.T. Zagato Continuation was built by Aston Martin Works at their historic Newport Pagnell site, equaling the number of cars originally produced, to celebrate Zagato's centenary. The car combines authenticity with an application of modern advances. To underline the authenticity are the VIN numbers of the Continuations, which follow the order of the last original DB4 G.T. Zagato. Only for track and with many special sporting setups and compliant with FIA specifications. The engine delivers about 370 hp. This specimen is not only one of (only) 19 cars, but it is in fact unique: it is the only one painted in Chiltern Green. It is a left-hand drive version and comes with additional Lucas spotlights and a speedometer in km/h as an option. New and perfect. It was used by Aston Martin for launch in communication and press.
The DB4 was a major step up from the Mark III model. The DB4 was the first Aston Martin to be assembled in the new Newport Pagnell factories and the performances, thanks to the engine edited by Tadek Mareck, were remarkable. A year after the model's launch, the G.T. version was offered for competitions. Compared to the road version, it was significantly lighter, and the engine went from 240 to over 300 hp. To counter the adversaries, the British company turned to Zagato to create an even more performing DB4 G.T. model. The construction was entrusted to Ercole Spada. The engine was boosted up to 314 hp and the gearbox was made of magnesium. Presented to the public in 1961, production stopped at 19 units. The original DB4 Zagato was followed by two consecutive series made a few decades later, again the result of cooperation between Aston Martin and Zagato, known as Sanction II (1991) and Sanction III (2000). Meticulously crafted and true to the original iconic Zagato-bodied DB4 G.T. cars, the 2019 DB4 G.T. Zagato Continuation was coachbuilt at Aston Martin Works in the historic home of Newport Pagnell – the birthplace of the 1960 original. A torchbearer for Heritage division, Newport Pagnell state-of-the-art facility has restored countless classic Aston Martins to their former glory and was the perfect facility in which to build the Continuation. To match the number of cars originally produced, just 19 of them were re-created to offer an opportunity to mark Zagato’s centenary year. Capturing the spell-binding essence of Aston Martin’s illustrious heritage, the DB4 G.T. Zagato Continuation combine the authenticity of the David Brown era cars with a sympathetic application of modern engineering advancements and performance enhancements. Great care is taken to ensure modern enhancements, while retaining the original feel and character. Aston Martin Works’ unrivalled knowledge and expertise ensures the Continuations are completely authentic and true to those original Zagato-bodied DB4 G.T.s produced. In a world of ruthless efficiency, handmade works on the DB4 G.T. Zagato still have the craftsman’s mark on them. To demand the extraordinary, was the only way to build the car. Underlining the authenticity are the Continuation car VIN numbers, which carry on from the last original DB4 G.T. Zagato’s ordered – for an unbroken bloodline and impeccable Newport Pagnell-built pedigree. Revered as one of the most beautiful cars ever made, the DB4 G.T. Zagato is also one of the rarest and values reflect these qualities. For track only and aluminum bodied, the structure is enhanced with integral FIA specification roll cage. The 6-cylinder engine delivers around 370 bhp trough a 4-speed David Brown type motorsport gearbox and a limited-slip differential. For the interiors we have FIA specification driver’s seat and safety harness. Other racing specs include a FIA specification fuel tank, adjustable race-type suspension with optimised geometry for track use, centre-lock wheels. High performance track brakes with endurance brake pad material. This example is not only one of just 19 cars but is actually unique: is the only one painted in Chiltern Green color. It’s a LHD version and has Lucas spot lamps and speedo in Kph as optional. Seats are XL sized. New and perfect. It was used by Aston Martin for launch in communication and press.
