In light, black-laquered kanshitsu structure, the top hachimanza, opposite the Mukai-tsuru-mon in gold. The border with missing parts. Lacquered in red inside. This type of Jingasa was specially called "Tonkyobo" in Japanese. The Tonkyobo was worn by all Samurai classes of the new government army (Satsuma and Choshu) from the highest class up to the infantry soldier. It was commonly used by Ashigaru Teppo-tai troops (Tanegashima marksmen). This example was probably used by the leader of the Ashigaru Teppo-tai troops, due to its high quality. End of the Edo period, around 1860.
