Title page of the first work printed in red and black, woodcut initials and tailpieces, small tear without loss on the inner margin of the title page, very light halo on the upper margin, rare and slight reddening, publisher's vellum binding, title stamped in gold within a label on the spine, spray cuts, green cloth bookmark, minor flaws. Noble stamp on the title page.

FIRST ITALIAN EDITION OF THIS RARE VOLUME ON ESOTERISM. The character of the Count of Gabalì is a legendary figure of esoteric literature, an icon that represents the idea of a secret and mysterious knowledge that allows the manipulation of reality. Published in French in 1670 by Henri de Montfaucon, abbot of Villars (ca. 1638-1673), who died assassinated at the age of only 38, it was translated into Italian for the first time by Prince Raimondo di Sangro and published in the typography of Palazzo Sansevero in Naples in 1751. It is a work that can be framed in the sixteenth-seventeenth century esoteric tradition, written in a clear and ironic style that aroused the interest of the most important figures of freemasonry of the century. XVIII. The work was banned the following year and the Prince of Sangro, to avoid repercussions, was led to claim that he was not responsible for the publication, which was instead given to the press clandestinely by his "boys".
