Letterpress, large and elegant historiated initials and woodcut friezes, facsimile frontispiece, some slight blooms and halos, small hole in the white margin of a few papers, last card with trimmed outer corner, coeval parchment binding with title and author imprinted on the spine, some slight stains. Note of belonging to the last card.

Famous treatise by Cartari on the mythology of the ancients. As expressed in the preface to the text, the novelty brought by the author is that of having studied the iconography of the gods and their multiple characteristics. This text therefore becomes fundamental for artists, painters, sculptors, but also poets and prose writers, who must, in their works, represent or describe the classical pantheon. Success in Europe was immediate and lasted for over two centuries. Cicognara 4684.
