Venice, Girolamo Savioni, 1738. In 8 °. 2 vols. Woodcut frieze on the frontispieces, half-title in vol.I, upper internal corner of the last issue of vol.I incomplete, small woodworm holes in the lower white margin of vol. II, blooms and burnished, coeval rigid parchment binding, back 5 nerves, superior portion of the ligature of vol.I lacunosa. Signature of belonging to the guard cards: Gio. Carlo Pico.

Specialist Notes

Fourth edition of Franciosini's famous Italian version of the Spanish masterpiece, printed for the first time in Italian between 1622 and 1625 by the Baba of Venice. It is a free version with several changes of Cervantes' text to evade some obstacles placed in the way of censorship. See Palau II, 171; Del Rio y Rico 421.
