Specialist Notes

First edition of this magnificent work dedicated to the Palace of the Emperor of Diocletian in Split, in full margins, in beards.

< / b> Robert Adam, Scottish architect, was one of the two protagonists of the neoclassical period. He traveled for 4 years, especially in Italy, where he met Piranesi and in 1757 he went to Split accompanied by the French artist Clerissau, carrying out studies and drawings of the ruins of Diocletian's Palace. Returning to his homeland, between 1764 and 1768, he was the architect of George III and the Queen. Cicognara 3567: "Magnificent and grandiose work where perhaps with overwhelming freedom, the art of the designer added beauty to works sculpted in the moment of the decadence of the arts".
