Specialist Notes

Real reportage of the Jesuit missions in the Americas, China, India with a strong ethnographic interest. The copy printed in Venice in 1755 contains 10 collections of letters and 7 engraved plates: a map of the overland passage to California, the "New Philippines", the coast of Peru, the land of fire and the Strait of Magellan, the river Nangasachi in China, a table of Chinese ideograms, the Chinese plant of "Cala-Tatze". Of considerable importance is the map of California, engraved based on a copy from the manuscript of Padre Kino of 1701, who had visited those lands from 1685 until his death in 1711: & nbsp; for the first time it was shown that California was not an island, despite what has been claimed up to then.
