Information
Made of maru-gata iron, with a reddish patina pierced with a positive sukashi drawing known as "tsururnaru", a stylised crane with outstretched wings crossing at the centre and enclosed in a circle, typical, perfectly oval seppadai. Sekigane. The school was founded in the 1600s and this is a work from the mid-1800s. The crane is a symbol of longevity and therefore a good omen. The condition of the patina is excellent. Provenance: Sotheby's London sale, 18/06/1997.
