Information
Smoothbore, two-stage barrels with remains of earlier browning, in good condition also inside, small signs of use and time. The firs segment of octagonal section featuring various gilded marks on the breech: groups of three and four crosses surrounding two squared marks on three sides, one is crowned and marked "CHR/STO.../RIS", the other with imperial globus. The second segment is round with silver-plated front sight. 15.5 mm cal at the nozzle. Tang engraved with floral motifs and with numbers "11" and "2". Locks with flat plate with oblique borders and swallow-tailed edge, engraved en suite with the tang, signed "CHRISTOPH RIS / IN WIENN" at the center of the plate. Well working mechanisms. Walnut briarwood half stocks with small signs of use and time, no structural damage, enriched with fine floral motifs and spirals in relief. Brass mounts, all smooth but the fine, dorsal escutcheons featuring a three-plume badge surrounded by an order and surmounted by a ducal (archducal?) crown. Wooden trigger guards, reinforced with brass band. Wooden ramrod, probably replaced. Two old, handwritten, inventory or collection numbers on a block fixed to the butt plate of each stock. Arms of very good quality, also notable for the choice of keeping the mounts sober in order to enhance the quality of the carved decorations on wood and steel.
