Larry Bird , born December 3, 1956 in West Terre Haute, Indiana, is an American former basketball player. Considered one of the greatest players of all time, Bird won three NBA titles with the Boston Celtics and was named the league's MVP three times.
Bird was selected by the Boston Celtics with the second overall pick in the 1979 NBA Draft. He made an immediate impact on the team, leading them to the NBA Finals in his rookie year. He won his first NBA title in 1981 and won two more in 1984 and 1986.
Bird's rivalry with Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers was one of the greatest in NBA history. The two faced each other in the NBA Finals for three consecutive years (1984, 1985 and 1986).
