The friendship that bound him to Chet Baker allowed William Claxton to create images that are not only those taken during the great trumpeter's concerts, but above all to capture him in his everyday life when he casts off his star's clothes and appears for what he really is. And this is where Claxton's ability as a portraitist comes to the fore, as does the passion for jazz that made him one of its great interpreters.
