Information

Roma
length 99 cm
Curved single-and short false-edged blade, grooved and with fuller, featuring the motto "VIVA L'ITALIA" on the right side, on the left side decorated with small floral motifs and the initials "CDV". Brass hilt with remains of antique gilding, for a junior officer, with sword-shell decorated with floral motifs in relief, cap shaped as a lion's head, horn grip (small missing parts) with copper wire binding. Missing scabbard. Given the atypical features of the blade and the motto of the Risorgimento, the abbreviation CDV might stand for "Corpo Dei Volontari" (Volunteers' Corp), a large military unit of volunteers serving Garibaldi during the Third War of Independence.
