Important Paintings and Sculptures from the 19th & 20th Centuries: Divisionist works from the Vercelotti collection, and works from prestigious Northern Italian collections (Lombardy and Veneto).

The auction of the 10th and 11th December is an appointment not to be missed by collectors and enthusiasts given the quality of the pieces on offer.

Gustave Courbet, a significant name amongst the Italian art market, stands out with his work Rochers D'Ornans, an oil on canvas with a strong light-shadow contrast and pyrotechnic colour contrast that describes the nature of the master's native lands.

The focal point of the auction, however, is the Vercelotti collection, Carlo Fornara's greatest scholar and collector. Also enriching the auction are paintings by Emilio Longoni, Matteo Olivero, Luigi Bolongaro and Angelo Morbelli

The auction follows with a magnificent sunset over St. Mark's Basin in Venice by Giuseppe Canella; whose extraordinary canvas is dated 1846 and the choice of the sunset subject is not entirely random. Then, we move on to the magnetic and monumental Dolomites by Ernst Platz, these dated 1896, and finally to the delicate twentieth-century declinations of a suffused and ethereal figuration, as in Alfredo Protti's case, who here presents his Self-portrait with his wife, a painting that is almost unyielding.

Focusing towards the various auction themes, Courbet will not be alone but with more notable French artists: Charles Jacque, Narcisse Diaz de la Peña, Charles Chaplin, Etienne Chauvelot and an extraordinary Delphin Enjolras. Another very present theme is Venice: from Karl Kauffmann to Antoine Bouvard, from Achille Bozzato to Eugenio Bonivento via Giuseppe Zancolli.

The rich catalogue closes with a collection of works by sculptor Napoleone Martinuzzi and a drawing by the famous Japanese artist Foujita.
