Venice, Felice Valgrisi, 1603. In 4. Title in elegant border with portrait of the author and typographic device, woodcut border for the Topics, initials, friezes and 51 beautiful full-page woodcut illustrations, The five cantos with their own title page and device are printed by Nicol Moretti, marginal foxing, a little short at the top of the title page which also appears slightly worn at the outside margin, modern binding in half hazelnut leather and cardboard, with title on red tag. Modern bookplate on the inside cover.

Reprint of the famous edition by V. Valgrisi from 1556, with the woodcuts still very fresh and clear .
Valgrisi published his first Furioso in 1556, challenging his rival Giolito de' Ferrari on a text that had been and still was one of his best works for years. Valgrisi's edition immediately became very popular and his printing house printed more editions of the Furioso than any other with the sole exception of the aforementioned Giolito, who produced seventeen up to 1587, and several more in the seventeenth century. The illustrations have been variously attributed to the Ferrarese painter Dosso Dossi (1480-1542) or to his brother Battista Dossi (1517-1548). The Argomenti ai Cinque Canti are by Luigi Groto, whose name appears on the title page of the same. On f. 2O7 are the Stanze del Signor Luigi Gonzaga, while the tables of the principles are by Giovanni Battista Rota, whose name appears in the title on f. 2S8r.
