Leida, Samuelem Luchtmans, 1724. In 4° large. On the frontispiece a full-page plate (with signatures: "N. v. M. del." and "FB fec") depicting the Argonauts surrounded by mythological monsters. Frontispiece printed in red and black with copperplate engraving depicting the Argonauts on a rowing ship within a medallion with a motto in ancient Greek around it. Decorated initials. Bound in sow's hide with a decoration in the centre of the cover. Spine with six raised bands with the author's name in black. Dark edges. Slight browning. Defects on the binding and spine.
Precious edition by Luchtmans of the classical poem composed in Latin by Gaius Valerius Flaccus (Latin poet who lived in the 1st century AD during the time of Vespasian) on the myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece.
