Specialist Notes

Rare and important, richly illustrated edition of the Divine Comedy, with commentary by Landino.
A noteworthy figure is the creator of this edition: Pietro di Giovanni de Quarengi (Petrus de Quarengiis) who began his activity as a printer in Venice in 1492 introducing himself with the name of «Petrus Bergomensis»: he was in fact originally from Palazzago, a town in the province of Bergamo. The IISTC reports 61 of his editions with 479 copies reported in libraries around the world. His activity continued until 1517.
