Genoa, Giuseppe Pavoni, 1617. In 2nd. Two magnificent chalcographic frontispieces framed in elaborate architectural motifs, one with the portrait of Carlo Emanuele of Savoy and the other with a panorama of Genoa and the portrait of Tasso, 20 plates engraved in copper from Castello's drawings placed at the opening of each corner, elegant depictions framed in rich architectural frames, ornate headpieces, finials and drop caps engraved in wood, some redness, light stains and damp marks, SPLENDID COEVAN BINDING in burgundy calfskin with refined gilded frames on the plates, decorated by phytomorphic irons, in the center a noble coat of arms containing two rampant lions facing each other, defects. Stamp on the reverse of the frontispiece of the "Museum Britannicum - 1881 Duplicate for sale".  

Specialist Notes

Valuable edition, in an excellent copy of illustrious provenance, of Jerusalem liberated illustrated by drawings from the Castle, different from those of the Bartoli edition of 1590 but no less elaborate.
