Specialist Notes

"It is the same text and the same edition [of the 1776 princeps]. Only the title has been changed. The full-page title page has been maintained, but that of the old title has been replaced by Contre-Marche which constitutes the heading of the second part. In this same period the following title was added to the Atlas: Marches et Évolutions de Cavalerie représentées en XXXII estampes dessinées et gravées par les plus habiles Maîtres..., Paris, Nyon et chez Firmin Didot, S. D. (circa 1789 The 22 additional figures announced in the title of the text and in that of the Atlas are simply taken from the in-f° edition of La Guérinière's École de cavalerie. Drummond de Melfort's Traité sur la Cavalerie was also later published in Dresden, but under very different conditions". (Mennessier de La Lance, 1915-1921).
