Paris, Lemercier, s.d.(but after 1851). In 2nd. Title page contained in a frame of plant motifs, full-page portrait of the author, 24 (of 25) plates engraved by E. Ciceri, Bachelier and others, from drawings by E. Chelli, G.Toci each with title and protected by tissue paper, 1 plate missing, 2 plates with tears, some humidity and blooms, title page and some detached plates, some small tears without loss in the white margins, original binding in the middle brown leather, gold-embossed decoration on the plates, worn, defects.
Specialist Notes
Sought-after work. The Count of Larderel built establishments for the extraction of boric acid near Montecerboli and thus a village was born which took the name of Larderello. Our copy is in the second edition, the most complete of plates which followed a first printing containing 22 views. The view of Larderello has been modified as expansions to the industrial establishments had been made in the meantime. It is designed by Toci, rather than by Chelli, and is imprinted in three colours.
