Volumes entirely made in chalcography, two engraved frontispieces and 7 tipped-in plates, engraved headers, drop caps and finals, numerous illustrations, coeval calfskin binding, plates framed by a gold frame, on the smooth spines with gilded friezes two plugs with title and number of volume, gilt edges, decorated dentelles, slight defects, some scratches, small losses and defects on the spine.
Masterpiece of 16th century typography. XVIII, with chalcographic text and a rich iconographic apparatus engraved in copper by John Pine including: 2 vignettes on the title pages, 324 figures, vignettes and finials, 27 headers and 164 drop caps. This copy is part of the second edition of the first edition, as can be deduced from the wording on page. 108 of vol. II: the medallion bears the inscription "potest", instead of the incorrect "post est".
