Specialist Notes

Fascinating set of three works by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, with a total of 40 plates in beautiful impression depicting the ruins of Rome, vases, candelabra and friezes.  The Antiquities of Albano were the result of Piranesi's archaeological studies in the area around Lake Albano, which had been encouraged and supported by Pope Clement XIII, who dedicated the work. Hind, pp.86 & 83.
