Specialist Notes
The text represents an interesting synthesis of the positions of Paolo Sebastiano Medici (Livorno 1671- Florence 1738). Belonging to the Jewish community with the name of Moisè, he converted to the Christian faith inspired mainly by the Barnabite friars. Having become a priest, he was a professor of Sacred Scripture and the author of many works of an exegetical didactic nature, distinguishing himself for his energetic proselytizing and anti-Jewish action. Sstructured in 33 chapters, the book illustrates all the anti-Jewish stereotypes and the rituals considered born of witchcraft and superstitions; it placed itself in stark conflict with the work "Historia dei riti ebraici" by Rabbi Leone Modena who had wanted to divulge, a century earlier, Jewish customs and traditions
