Valuable and esteemed work of historical-artistic interest commissioned by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Nicola Santangelo (famous collector and patron) on the occasion of the Seventh Scientific Congress of Italians which took place in Naples in 1845. The drafting was entrusted to well-known personalities from around the world scientific with writings by Stanislao d'Aloe (ecclesiastical events and artistic sites), Raffaele D'Ambra (topography, politics and economy), Mariano d'Ayala (military orders), Carlo Bonucci (the surroundings of Naples), Cesare Dalbono (residences royalty), Francesco Puoti (charities), Bernardo Quaranta (historical events). The beautiful iconography, lithographed by Franz Wenzel and Antonio Zezon based on a design by two great artists of the time, Achille Vianelli and Giacinto Gigante, depicts the most artistic and celebrated monuments and places in the capital and gives the work an unsurpassed romantic air. The text gives a faithful idea of the city of Naples, of its artistic, scientific and literary events, of politics, agriculture, economy and industry.
