One-eye, light browning, slight blooms, contemporary half leather binding with corners and marbled paper, author embossed in gold within a gusset on the smooth spine, slight defects. In 4th. With 22 sheets of numbered double-page plates and elegant engraved frontispiece, vignette on the title page, slight bluing, slightly more intense on a few cards, some flowering, small restoration at the upper white margin of b3-4, coeval half leather binding with corners and marbled paper, title embossed in gold within a red gusset on the smooth spine.


Specialist Notes

Important treatise on the comparative study of religions by Charles-François Dupuis (1742-1809) & nbsp; published for the first time in the year III of the Republic [1794-1795] with the title L'Origine de tous les cultes, ou Religion universelle. The author's intent was to demonstrate the common origin of the main religions and astronomical beliefs of humanity, by examining the Egyptian, Greek, Chinese and Arab traditions. The lot is accompanied by the volume of tables belonging to the first edition of 1794.
