Specialist Notes

Venice in the Risorgimento , this is the most appropriate title for this album, probably conceived and conceived by Elisabetta Michiel Giustinian (1825-1889) . wife of Giovanni Battista (1816-1888), the last heir of one of the most influential Venetian noble families, the Giustinian dei Vescovi. She accompanied him, advising and supporting him in the most delicate moments of his life, but he was in turn a significant figure both for the fate of the collection and more generally in the society of the time. & Nbsp; Elisabetta is described as a woman with an "enterprising and full of resources ”always alongside her husband in the various moments that saw them protagonists on the public stage. Although his figure remained in the background for a long time, it played a fundamental role in Giustinian's choices. Both anti-Austrians supported the patriots' actions with courage and with economic aid, participating in the Venetian revolutionary season in the first person. Compromised for their subversive activity, with the return of the Habsburgs to the city, the Justinians left for voluntary exile and, condemned in absentia, all their assets were confiscated by the Austrian authorities.
Inside it contains 14 lithographs, some of which are taken from the Album dell'Indipendenza by Giacomo Casa , 4 pencil drawings, including the portrait of Felice Orsini, 2 au lavis with episodes from the life of Daniele Manin, 6 photographs, various posters, several manuscripts with poems by Giannina Milli, Arnaldo Fusinato, 7 tricolor crochet cockades from 1848-'49 and 1866, various postcards, a patriotic paper money, received for donations in favor della Patria etc.
