London, J.Boydell, 1783-82. 2 vols. In 2nd. Title pages with copper engraved view and 150 intaglio plates by M.A. Rooker, Chescham, Woodyer, Fittler and others based on a design by Sandby, text in English and French, coeval binding in spotted leather with thin Greek frame engraved in gold at Picts, smooth back embossed in gold, with gusset, abrasions and restorations. Paper bookplate on the counterplate: Thomas Sherrard and signatures of belonging to the title pages: Thomas Sherrard and David Henry Sherrard (the son).
Specialist Notes
Thomas Sherrard (1750-1837) was an Irish architect. Inspector of the Dublin Wide Streets Commissioners from the late 1970s, he produced a large city plan. He later shared his role with his son David Henry.
