Provenance

The model
The 911 S was presented in August 1966 and remained in production with continuous modifications until 1969; it was replaced in 1970 by the larger engined 2.2 litre version. The 911 S is equipped as standard with the famous Fuchs light alloy forged wheel rims with a star design, a detail that distinguished it for its entire production. Interns of bodywork, the S is slightly wider: 16 mm at the front and 8.4 mm at the rear, and mounts rubber protection on the bumpers. The S is the sports version of the 911 model, equipped with the new 901/02 engine, uprated to 160 hp with triple-body Weber carburettors and Bosch spark plugs with higher thermal rating; the same engine is used on the 906 race car. The set-up is also revised, making it more suitable for sports driving, solving the strong understeer of the 911; Koni shock absorbers are fitted and stabilizer bars are installed at the front and rear. The brakes are self-ventilated, obviating the problem of overheating, they are all four discs and are of greater thickness than those mounted on the normal 911. The gearbox is a 901/03 five-speed gearbox with the first gear on the bottom left, a ZF self-locking differential is available. The 911 S started racing in immediately and the parent company offered gearboxes with ratios designed for the various types of race, especially uphill and on the tracks. The weight of the 911 S is only 1030 kg, 50 kg less than the normal 911; such alight weight, combined with a powerful engine, allows the 911 S to touch 221 Km/h, with an acceleration from 0-100 Km/h in 6.8", two seconds faster than the normal 911; consumption at 130 km/h stands at 10.3 liters per 100 km. In the interior, the S is enriched with leather, which covers the steering wheel and the upper part of the instrument panel, the latter "dominated" in the center by the rev counter which, in the case of S, has a high“red” field high between 7,000-7,400 rpm. The set-up and engine were tested in the most famous rally in the world at the time: the Monte-Carlo Rally. At the 1968 edition, a 911 T (chosen for commercial purposes, as it was cheaper) with the mechanics and set-up of the S, driven by Vic Elford, won the prestigious rally, with a sensational advertising effect.
The car
The Porsche 911 S, chassis no. WP000000011801170, is one of the cars built in 1968, still with the "short" (2,211meters) wheelbase. It comes from the cars chosen for the Saottini Collection. The marked kilometers are 92,778 km and it is one of only 1,267 units produced. The car is accompanied by a Porsche certificate of origin, a set of studded tires and a normal one. The car was used by the Centro Porsche Brescia in numerous Winter Marathons, an almost fixed presence at the winter race from 2013 to 2018; and, after the races, has always been "followed"by the technicians of the Porsche center itself. The car is in excellent condition, well preserved after a restoration many years ago, shows no signs of discoloration or wear; in the interior, the driver's seat was replaced with another of the same period.
State of the art
Restored some years ago, well-preserved and in excellent condition.
