The model
The Audi Coupé name identifies two generations of sports cars, both derived from the 80 sedans, produced between 1980 and 1995. Launched immediately after the Quattro, with which it shared (albeit in a less racing style) the bodywork, the Coupé GT is, essentially, a coupe version of the 80 sedan, from which it is derived mechanically and of which it maintained the dashboard and the general set up. It’s stylistic origin has its roots in the "Ace of Spades" prototype created by Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign, commissioned by Carrozzeria Karmann, and presented as a sports car proposal to be produced on the Audi 80 chassis at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1973. The GT debut was available in the 5S variants, powered by the 1921 cm³ in-line 5-cylinder fuelled by 115 HP with carburettor, and the 5E, equipped with the 2144 cm³ 136-cylinder 5-cylinder injection engine. More than performance, the GT, which was only available in the front-wheel drive version, focused on style, build quality and comfort. For those who wanted speed there was the Quattro. At the end of 1984 a revised version was presented, with the front and dashboard of the 90 sedan, new matching bumpers, dark rear lights and a different range of engines. The various generations of the Audi Coupé were replaced by the Audi TT.
The car
The Audi Coupé, chassis no. WAUZZZ85ZCA117237, is a 5S model with the 1.9 litre engine from 1982. It comes from the cars chosen for the Saottini Collection. Single owner until 2011, then in the collection. The car is preserved and is in fair condition. The silver-colored bodywork is in order, with some signs of a ging and evident damage to the rear left corner following a minor collision that slightly damaged the bumper, bodywork and taillight. As for the interiors, they are complete and original, but worn in several parts and restoration work is needed. The mechanics have been well maintained over its lifetime in all its components and the instruments record just over 180,000 km travelled. To be expected, however, is some necessary servicing and maintenance. The car enjoys the aspect of the (expensive and rare find) Quattro, in a version suitable for daily use. It is reasonable to expect a re-evaluation of the model, given its comparative rarity.
