Provenance

Gian Marco Chiavari Collection, Erté's procurator in Italy and scholar of the artist
The relationship between Erté, Romain de Tirtoff, and Gian Marco Chiavari was the most important for the famous Russian-French painter in Italy. For the artist, Chiavari had not only the task of guaranteeing the authenticity of the works, but of promoting the image and the work in its entirety, so much that several exhibitions and volumes were curated by Chiavari: from Bronzi di Erté: dal disegno alla scultura in 1983 to the autobiography Cose che ricordo published in 1987. The works, belonged to Chiavari, that are presented here also testify to the quality of the pieces that belonged to the artist's prosecutor and scholar, careful to enhance even with valuable frames (note the mother-of-pearl frame of the La Ballerina del Can Can). A gallery of highly suggestive silhouettes, faces and profiles that we can offer in this auction (lots 202-205, 209-211, 214-220).
