An extremely rare great helm for a knight, Second half of the 14th Century

height 36,5 cm.
Made of iron. The top cap in one piece, the rest of the skull consisting of two plates, a front and an occipital one, all held by rivets. The front plate ribbed at the center. The visor (missing parts and flaking) with several air holes on both sides and another one for the view, the edges of which are turned outwards; a light, longitudinal rib continues the design of the front plate. Fastening strip featuring two rivets. A large Greek cross fretwork at the bottom, on the right side only. The nape-guard plate is preserved better than the other one, with the basal edge facing outwards, like the one on the front side. The sides of the skull with holes for the crest. Helm weight: 2.79 kg. In beautiful, antique brown patina.
