Specialist Notes

Painter born near Beauvais in 1705, died in Rome in 1766. Pupil of J. Restout, he spent a long time in Rome, from 1748 to 1753 at the French Academy. He painted genre subjects (The Masquerade of the Four Parts of the World, 1751, Mus. of Besançon); he was also an engraver (Les plus beaux monuments de Rome ancienne, 1761; Les plus beaux édifices de Rome moderni, 1763).
