Information

Naples, for Vincenzo Flute at the expense of Michele Stasi, 1792. In 8°, 220 x 140 mm. Complete with the rare errata sheet, marginal tears on the first two leaves, otherwise a PERFECT EXAMPLE. Green half leather and canvas binding, early twentieth century.

Specialist Notes

First edition of Palmieri's last political-economic work, published shortly before his death and which became his most important book. «Minister of an absolute monarchy, he wanted to proceed with great circumspection with the reform of abuses». In 1787 he became a member of the Supreme Council of Finance of the Kingdom of Naples, a council of which he assumed the direction in 1791, two years before his death. A great supporter of the overthrow of the feudal regime, he was the promoter of laws for the stocks of cereals and other foodstuffs (ration laws) and of reforms of codes and institutions, as well as promoter of the development of the road network of the Neapolitan Kingdom. In these years of government activity he collaborated with another prominent representative of the Neapolitan Enlightenment, Gaetano Filangieri.
