Specialist Notes

Giovanni Moretti founded Fabbrica Automobili Moretti SpA in Turin in 1925. After the war became an automobile manufacturer, with the production characterized by a high degree of finishing and by the possibility of obtaining the models in multiple bodywork configurations which included, in addition to the sedan, also coupé, spider and station wagon. The Fiat 600 and the Fiat 500 put small manufacturers in crisis, and Moretti, from the end of the 50’s, decided to suspend the construction of complete cars to concentrate on the creation of special bodies on large series mechanics. The company's collaboration with the designer Giovanni Michelotti began in 1953. Michelotti's creativity was such as to allow for bodywork that was perfectly adapted to both the original chassis designed by Moretti and those derived from FIAT. In 1961 Moretti presented the 750 Coupé: the starting point was the Fiat 600 D. Michelotti managed to design two versions, one for Moretti and one for Vignale, making them different and recognizable despite some common accessories, such as rear windows, to reduce production costs production of these two custom-built cars. The coupé was placed alongside the spider, for which a hardtop was provided. Two series of 750 Moretti were made, for around fifty examples. From 1963, the car was made with a fake aluminum mask on the nose. This Moretti 750, second series, chassis 1428860 and license plate TO527212, was discovered by the current owner in an industrial building in La Spezia. It was complete but in need of restoration, which lasted until 2019. During the restoration it was discovered that the original color wasn’t the blue it has when it was found, but white, an excellent combination with the red interior. The car was exhibited in 2017, with the restoration almost completed, at Automotoretrò in Turin, and obtained the ASI Gold Plate. It is still in perfect condition, restored in all its parts. Everything is documented. The car is ideal for participating in concours d’elegance.
