Specialist Notes

Facsimile of the splendid Book of Hours donated by Margaret of York to Mary of Burgundy on the occasion of her wedding. One of the most famous manuscripts of the late Middle Ages, it consists of 368 very elegant pages with text written in gold and silver on a black background, most of them decorated with very high quality miniatures, including 20 with full page illustrations. Among the masters who have certainly participated in the realization of this work of art: the Master of Mary of Burgundy; Willelm Vrelant and Simon Marmion. Expression of the refined Burgundian art scene, the miniatures open windows on the daily life of the court, on the wonderful landscapes and on a way of understanding the secular and the spiritual strongly interconnected.
