Ichi-Mai Do, also known as Maekake-gusoku. This armour, typical of the Tanegashima marksmen consists of only a breast-plate with a light structure, black-lacquered on the front side with a large, red-lacquered 'Kuwagata-ni Maru-ni-jyuji mon', used only by the Miyakonojo Shimazu clan, a branch of the Shimazu Daimyo of Satsuma family. Complete with Kusazuri with three, five-plate ken provided with a simple Sugake-odoshi lacing in Koto-ito and Takuboku-ito on the borders. Most of the Tanegashima Do shooters were destroyed. The troops of the Miyakonojo Shimazu Clan were well known as one of the strongest troops in the new government's army during the Boshin War (1868-1869), Japan's civil war. Late Edo period.
