Round, rifled, 45/70 cal. barrel with precision rear sight, front sight and marks "V", "P", eagle head and "P" at the base; bolt marked "MODEL 1873" above an eagle's head, crossed swords and "US"; tang with serial number "70xxx"; forward spring lock marked "US SPRINGFIELD 1873" and with American eagle; a hilt to hold the rare Metcalve Experimental block between lock and barrel bracket, wooden full stock with iron mounts; complete with ramrod. Browned iron parts. With leather strap (a small damage) with metal mounts. Interesting rifle in good condition also used by Native Americans and equipped with the rare lock-magazine invented by Lieutenant Henry Metcalf; only 1008 items of the 1873 model with this supplement were produced.
