A Musket shooter's Jingasa with "Mukai-tsuru-mon", Edo Period (1603-1867)

Light, black-lacquered Kanshitsu structure (small missing parts), top with brass Hachimanza. At the front side, above the short brim the 'Mukai-tsuru-mon' in gold. The back with Agemki-no-kan (bow ring of silk). Red-lacquered interior without futon and laces. This type of Jingasa was named Tonkyobo and was worn by all the Samurai of the new government army (Satsuma and Choshu), from the highest class down to the simple infantryman, often used by Ashigaru Teppo-tai troops (Tanegashima marksmen). Late Edo period around 1860.
