Made of iron, with beautiful patina, nade-maru-gata, yo-sukashi depicting ears of rice bending in the wind, very precise and careful details in ke bori carving, underlined in gold nunome. Late Edo period. The subject is represented in many schools, in fact rice is the country's staple crop. The tsuba is from the late Choshu school, mid 19th century, indeed some influences of the Bushu school can be seen. Provenance: Sotheby's London Sale, 08/04/1998.
