Information

Stato Pontificio
length 91.5 cm.
Slightly curved, single-and false-edged blade with a wide central fuller and rear groove, the base with the motto "De la Legion ......" (the last word was deliberately cancelled, it was probably "Romana"). The rear part worked following the Chatellerault manufacture, with date "1851" or "1871" (not completely legible), the tang with marks. Brass hilt with remains of gilding, the shell-guard pierced with floral motifs, marked 'JM', a loop-guard, short cap engraved with floral motifs. Horn handle with metal wire binding. Leather scabbard with brass mounts, the cap with the manufacturer's mark "J. MANCEAU A PARIS", two lugs, the chape is detached. An interesting booty of war.
