dating: about 1860 provenance: Papal States, Boiled leather skull, brass front badge depicting a shell-guard marked 'PIO IX' surmounted by pierced brass lyre on a white metal bezel, all surmounted by a papal tiara above crossed keys. The tip complete with orange and white horsehair; leather chin-straps lined with velvet (defects) and armored with brass scales, a two-color metal cockade on left side. With sweat-band inside, missing cap. Together with a rare leather cartridge box with brass mounts, complete with leather bandoleer with shield featuring tiaras, keys and brass mounts. height 35.5 cm.
