dating: End of 19th beginning of 20th Century provenance: Abissinia, Wide and massive, curved, single-and short-false-edged blade, with fuller and nickel-plating, engraved on half of its length on both sides. With a dense pattern of racemes surrounding the motto 'VIVA IL RE' on the right side, and with the effigy of a leaping lion on the left side, among racemes. Brown horn handle with signs of use and time. Silver-colored metal cap engraved with geometric motifs. Leather sword-knot. Leather scabbard with remains of impressed decoration. An interesting sample of the various wars that involved Italy, Eritrea and Ethiopia since the late 19th century, and that ended only in 1941 with the liberation of Ethiopia by the British and Ethiopian troops.See Calamandrei 'Storia dell'Arma Bianca Italiana,' pg.196, lower left photo depicting cavalrymen of the 14th colonial cavalry squadron group 'Cavalieri dell'Amara' of 1936, the caption says: 'the soldiers of Coptic-Christian religion were armed with guradè...'Probably this was the weapon of an important member of the native troops serving the Italian forces. length 94 cm.
