Wayne Rooney is an English former footballer and manager, born on 24 October 1985 in Liverpool, England. Rooney is considered one of the greatest English footballers of his generation and is known for his versatility and goalscoring ability.
Rooney began his professional career with Everton in the Premier League, before moving to Manchester United in 2004. With Manchester United, he won numerous trophies, including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.
During his time at Manchester United, Rooney became the club's all-time top goalscorer, surpassing the record previously held by Sir Bobby Charlton. He was a key part of the team under Sir Alex Ferguson.
After his time at Manchester United, Wayne Rooney returned to play for Everton, before moving to Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States, where he played for D.C. United. In 2020, he returned to England to begin his coaching and playing career with Derby County.
At international level, Rooney represented England at several FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Championships. He captained England and scored a record 53 goals in 120 internationals before retiring from international football in 2018.
